01. About the Role
What You'll Be Doing
Sentinel Electric Inc. is seeking a Senior Electrical Substation / Power Plant Test Engineer to join our team in Palmetto, Georgia. This is a field-based role supporting acceptance testing and commissioning projects across the southeastern United States for major utility providers.

On a typical project, whether an apparatus change-out or a relay protection upgrade, you will serve as the dedicated Commissioning Engineer responsible for preparing, overseeing, and executing all testing activities in full compliance with PRC-005 and NERC reliability requirements.

You'll work alongside protective relay engineers, equipment specialists, and control board wiremen to ensure all systems are tested, verified, and brought online safely. 02. What You'll Do
Key Responsibilities
Protective Relay Testing
Setting, testing and calibration of electro-mechanical and micro-processor relays — Schweitzer, ABB, RFL, Beckwith, Multilin, GE, Siemens and Basler. "End to End" system testing using Doble F6150 / Omicron 356 satellite technology.
Commissioning & Acceptance Testing
Prepare, oversee and execute acceptance testing on new and existing installations. Commission greenfield projects as well as modifications and retrofits. Perform final in-service checks when bringing equipment online for the first time.
Design Review & Test Planning
Review design drawings and one-lines before mobilisation. Develop and execute comprehensive test plans. Circuit verification of AC/DC circuits from schematics, three-lines, one-lines and manufacturer drawings.
Equipment Testing
Power transformers (Power Factor, TTR, winding resistance, Megger), power circuit breakers (timing, velocity, voltage withstand, contact resistance), current transformers, CCVTs, MODs, station battery and charger systems, meters, cables and ground grid.
Project Leadership & Reporting
Provide technical direction to relay engineers, equipment specialists and wiremen on site. Manage quality assurance and prepare detailed test reports and documentation for each project.
NERC Compliance
All work executed in full compliance with PRC-005 and NERC reliability requirements. Support utility clients in meeting their compliance obligations and staying current with regulatory changes.
03. What We Need
Requirements
Essential
A degree in Electrical Engineering or an engineering degree is preferred. Alternatively, candidates with a mandatory two-year associates degree in Electrical Engineering plus six years of substation and/or power plant commissioning experience also qualify
5+ years of electrical substation testing and commissioning experience
NETA certification or equivalent preferred
Proficiency with Doble F6150, Omicron 356 or equivalent test equipment
Experience testing micro-processor relays — Schweitzer, ABB, GE, Siemens, Basler
Strong understanding of PRC-005 and NERC reliability standards
Ability to read schematics, one-lines, and three-line drawings
Valid driver's license and ability to travel throughout the southeastern United States
Preferred
Experience commissioning greenfield projects as well as modification projects
Power transformer testing: Power Factor (Doble), TTR, winding resistance
Station battery and charger testing experience
Strong written and verbal communication for client-facing technical reporting
FR clothing compliance awareness (NFPA 70E)
